Xmas Eve

Christmas Eve is a weird holiday. Right now, well it is just an ordinary afteroon, but in a few hours it will be Christmas Eve and we will have to become all warm and fuzzy inside from the magic of it.

If i am fourty, taking the bus to tacoma for a liquidation sale, talking to strangers about my divorce on the day before christmas eve... Eight years ago this week, i rode this bus the other direction, coming to Seattle from Oly with my new college friends who were so grown up and so classy and so much older and wiser in the ways of the world. But they'd never been to seattle, so i was the star in the group. I don't even remember christmas that year, just the days before when we bounced around town feeling so young and so adult, knowing it was totally special and wonderful and pretending it was normal and mundane. Or maybe this is just a normal bus ride with no nostalgic weight. Oh, and i have a christmas tree on my lap.

Safeway

They remodeled the store at the top of Queen Anne. It's ever so pretty and all, but what makes me REALLY uneasy is the dramatically increased level of forced friendliness. The lady at the hot food counter led me all around the store looking for a product. Another person, i think from the meat section joined in on the search. When i checked out, BOTH the checker AND the bagger thanked me, 'mr warren' and then offered twice, nearly insisted to help me to my car. I miss Rosa, who worked for Dominick's, but refused to offer help out with that pack of gum and didn't say, 'thank you mr. NAME ON Receipt'

Happy Xmas Homeless Kids

As I left work today I posted a sign on the door for all the sweet little homeless youth. It read "Drop-in will be closed Monday, December 25th (Christmas Day) and Tuesday, December 26th. Happy Holidays!" Merry fucking Christmas, but we won't be around to give you food or shelter.

Make christmas happy again! Ah! Seriously, i think I need Home Alone 5 to come out in the next thirty six hours. I need a sweeping John Williams score, a clever kid who beats the odds, and a closing scene that reminds me of the beauty of the season. Now, god fucking damnit!
